JUNE '06 YAMUNA BODY ROLLING DATES FOR JUNE
Use your class card or drop in for $15

Saturday, June 3 : 4:30 PM Low Back & Hip
In this class we will do a series of routines using 6- to 10-inch balls to work specific muscles in detail to create suppleness in tight areas and optimize range of motion. In order to release and balance the muscles that affect your low back and hips we will work muscles from the top of your pelvis down: muscles of your legs, your buttocks and your hip rotators. Well also work from the top of your pelvis up: your abdominals and back muscles. Separating, elongating and toning these muscles will create space, relieving pressure on your hips and low back.

Saturday, June 24 : 4:30 PM Body Rolling for Yoga
Through Yamuna Body Rolling, you can more easily master asanas while preventing injury. Learn to go deeper in your yoga postures, hold them longer and feel more graceful and powerful while doing so. Create a true crescent shape in half moon! Go all the way up on your toes for awkward pose! Yamuna Body Rolling can help you advance in your yoga routine no matter what your level of fitness or style of yoga practice.

A ball, the floor and you---we will use the special Yamuna balls and target specific muscle groups (sides and back of the body as well as muscles in the legs and feet) with routines to increase flexibility and remove obstacles and restrictions from the body. Come breathe into the ball and experience a unique workout for Yoga practitioners---and anyone interested in a longer, freer and more relaxed body.

May '06 Vacuum Technology As a Hot Yoga Studio with carpet, we are always exploring new ways to keep our carpet as clean and fresh as possible. We recently discovered a German made air and carpet cleaning system that worked SO WELL that we had to share it with you! The product is Hyla and the technology is a water-based electronic filtering system for cleaning your carpets, hardwoods and the air in your home. It is extremely easy to use and you can see what you pull out of your carpets right in the water. Seeing is believing, and we are now in the process of buying a system for the studio. If you struggle with allergies, have animals or just want to use the best cleaning system available, check out Pure LIfe , a local environmental home store near Whole Foods on Briarcliff and then link to the Hyla website. To prepare you, the product is expensive; however, depending on your situation, it may be the best money you ever spend (aside from your yoga classes of course). Call Audrey @404-634-5590 if you would like to schedule a demo at your home and tell her that Debbie from DHY sent you.

Mar '06 Tools for Schools
DHY YogaKids teachers, Cheryl Crawford and Amy Haysman were instrumental in developing the YogaKids Tools for Schools training program which is a school-based yoga program that integrates across all K-5 curricula, and adapts to Statewide Performance Standards. The methodology links movement and kinesthetic learning to enhance the classrooms in fun and developmentally appropriate ways. Several times throughout the day, students are guided to use yoga tools in the classroom to increase physical fitness, and align their brain and body systems together to make learning more fun and more successful. This will lead to less stress and greater success!

A training will be offered for certified classroom teachers at Fernbank Elementary School on March 25th. The 6 hours of in-depth training includes Yogakids Pose Card Tool Box with 50 cards and tips for curriculum integration Binder with Teacher's Manual, Lesson Plans, Om@Home Pages and Posters And much much more. Amy and Cheryl have trained YogaKids Facilitators all over the world and here they are at our very own studio. Yogakids International is the original provider of yoga, yoga fitness and educational products for children.

Mar '06 Yoga and Politics
DHY YogaKids teacher, Cheryl Crawford has been in close contact with Senator David Adelman who is working on passing Senate Bill 474, the Georgia Student Health and Fitness Act, on to the House of Representatives. The bill would require that Georgia's children receive more education and instruction in the areas of nutrition, physical fitness and healthy lifestyle choices. Among other measures, the bill would require 30 minutes of physical education each day in elementary schools and 45 minutes in middle schools. Currently, physical education is currently not required in Georgia's middle schools, and most elementary students only receive physical education 2 or 3 days a week.

The American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association, has launched a campaign to encourage Americans to make healthier choices with regard to diet and exercise. According to the American Cancer Society, obesity is related to an increased risk of several forms of cancer, including breast, endometrial, esophagus, and kidney. According to the Centers for disease control, 26% of Georgia's youth are overweight or at the threshold of being considered overweight. Senate Bill 474 will ensure that Georgia's children are given opportunities to make healthy choices everyday with regard to diet and exercise.

Yamuna Body Rolling Class
Presenter: Melissa Wirsig
Saturday, January 28th 4:30-6:00pm.
Drop in for $15 or use your DHY class card

After our first Body Rolling class in December, we have had several requests to offer this on a regular basis. Our intention is to offer this at least once a month.

Yamuna Body Rolling allows you to condition and lengthen your muscles as you realign your spine and joints. You will use a 6 to 10 inch ball to learn to do your own deep-tissue massage and myofascial release. Yamuna Body Rolling is a wonderful tool for self-healing and often helps you to relieve existing pain. It also helps you to discover imbalances and correct them before they become a more serious problem. Body Rolling is easy and it feels so good that you will get hooked. Your body will only ask for more.

The 6 inch foam roller is an excellent tool to challenge your proprioception and balance. Learn to use it to strengthen your core muscles as we adapt several Pilates exercises to be done on the foam roller.

Kundalini Workshop: Flexibility and the Spine
Presenter: Sedef Dion
January 28th 12:30-3:00pm
DHY Zen Room
$45.00

This kriya is an example of a series which would not be given in a routine Kundalini Yoga class. It is for students who have attained a moderate degree of flexibility and coordination in regular Kundalini classes and who need a challenge, a deeper practice, and want to eject residual poisons and drugs from the muscle tissue. If this set is done every morning, the spine will be adjusted so well that many chiropractic bills will be unnecessary. Before attempting this set, be sure you have no major physical problems that will prevent you from doing any of the exercises. Unlike most kundalini Yoga kriyas, there is no rest between each exercise, unless it is explicitly stated. Not recommended for someone who has never experienced Kundalini yoga.

Great for yoga instructors, personal trainers, artists or dancers even sixth graders! No artistic ability is necessary.
